WHY WAS SOLOMAN'S TEMPLE DESTROYED?

According to biblical accounts, Solomon's Temple, also known as the First Temple, was destroyed in 586 BCE. During that period, the temple’s destruction was primarily associated with the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, led by King Nebuchadnezzar II.

The historical context is provided in the Bible, particularly in the Books of Kings and Chronicles. According to these accounts, the destruction of the temple was a result of the disobedience of the Israelites and their kings to the covenant with God.

The people--were said--to have turned away from worshiping the one true God and engaged in idolatry and other sinful practices. Biblical narratives attribute the fall of Jerusalem and, the destruction of the temple, to divine judgment.

The people's departure from God's commands and their unfaithfulness led to a series of warnings, and ultimately to the conquest by the Babylonians. In 2 Kings 25:8-9 (New International Version), it is described: "On the seventh day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard, an official of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem”. Jeremiah 52 13 "He set fire to the temple of the Lord, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. Every important building he burned down."
